How do I add new shipping types?

Definition of shipping types

Shipping types correspond to those shipments with specific price and area characteristics. For example, it is possible to have a Standard shipping type with delivery dates of 3-5 days and a Express type with delivery dates of 1-3 days, each of them with different prices.

Different shipping areas are configured inside shipping types, once they are defined.

When editing the shipping type, it will be possible to assign the shipping or delivery areas for each of the types, which will define the geographical locations where that shipping type is available and the weight intervals and the order imports that will be taken into account when the shipment is done to one of those locations. It is possible to create as many shipping areas as we need.

In the shipping selection in the FrontOffice, the system will only display the shipping types that match that particular order and that shipment address, according to the geographical locations and intervals.

The main fields are:

Internal ID: Unique internal ID which is used in automation processes. It is not displayed in the FrontOffice and it is only needed in case we have some kind of integration with external systems.
Shipping priority (compulsory): The shipper’s name, only visible in the BackOffice.
Sections with tax included: It indicates the priority or relevance of this shipping type. It is used to condition the shipping price in case that, for example, a small product (like a memory card) is shipped alone or shipped along with another bigger size product (like a television). In this example, if the memory card is shipped alone it can be interesting to have certain carriages (for example, fixed carriages), but if it is shipped along with the television, we may want to calculate carriages by weight.

Each product must have assigned its shipping priority (general information block). When there is only one product in the basket, its shipping priority will be displayed, but in case there are several products with different shipping priorities, we will see the shipping type with more relevance. To indicate this priority or relevance we use numbers from 1 to 10. 1 indicates maximum relevance and 10, minimum.

Therefore, in general, if all the products of an order have the same shipping priority, the system will display the shipping types of that priority. But if only one of the products of the order has a more relevant shipping priority, the system will display the shipping types of that priority (for it is more important).

Again with the previous example, if the shipping priority for the memory card is a 2, and the one for the television is a 1, when one or several memory cards are added to a basket (or any other product with shipping priority 2), the system will display the shipping types with priority 2. But if along with the memory card we buy a television, the system will automatically change and will display the shipping types with priority 1, because those are more relevant.

In Languages:

Name (compulsory): The shipper’s name that will be displayed in the website.
Taxes applied: Here we can configure the tax type of the applicable tax for this shipping type.
Shipping areas: The different shipping areas with different prices. For example, if our business is in Barcelona, the shipping costs will not be the same if we ship to Sabadell than if we ship to Galicia (we will see more information about this later).
