What are image optimization warnings?

In LogiCommerce’s notification system there exists a module that analyses the images of our store and points out whether it is possible to optimize them so they have an appropriate size. This way, we will not only reduce the size of the images but also the loading times of the website as well as the bandwidth consumption of your online store.

In the bottom tool bar we can find access to notifications, where we can find images without optimization, among other warnings.

Notification warnings can be set active / inactive at all times through its quick access, located in the cogwheel icon in the upper part of the warning notification window.

When opening the notification window, the active warnings are grouped in different tabs. Values in parentheses display the number of warnings awaiting revision.

What to do if we are not subscribed to the image optimization module?

If we do not have the optional image optimization module, the displayed window will be similar to the image below. This window clearly displays which images our calculation system considers that need optimization.

It is possible to see a preview for each image, as well as its path, size and optimization rate the tool considers it can be achieved, being “Very high” the highest possible optimization rate.

The displayed value is the difference between the size and quality of the image and the one the systems considers it can be achieved after its optimization. When the system displays a very high optimization label, it means that it is very advisable optimizing the image. Below, you will find more information regarding this indicator.

How does the optional image optimization module work?

If the optional automatic image optimization module has been subscribed to, the window will display a similar aspect to the one in the next screenshot. Besides the previously mentioned data, here we can find the preview image option and the possibility to process the images for their optimization, one at a time or in image groups.

When we make a preview of the optimized image, a window will be displayed to help you compare the resulting image with the original one.

Below, we can find information and the utility for each of the columns displayed in this window:

Delete. When a notification is checked as “Delete”, this registry will automatically be erased and will no longer be displayed in the window. If a modification is made in the image file whose alert has been deleted, the notification will be displayed again if the image has not been optimized enough.

View. Preview of the current image as it is stored in the website’s image folder.

Alert name. Path to the image, including its file name.

Initial weight. Current size of the image.

Optimization level. It is the rate within the internal optimization parameters that must be achieved to get an optimal image. The values this column can have are as it follows:

  • Low: it suggests that the image can be optimized, so its size can be reduced with-out losing quality. However, the difference between the optimized image and the current one may not be great.

  • Medium: it suggests the image can be optimized and that its size can be significantly re-duced without losing quality. The difference between the optimized image and the current one is great, so it is advisable to optimize it.

  • High: It suggests that the image can be optimized to greatly reduce its size with-out losing quality. The difference between the original image and the optimized one can be huge, thus it is greatly encouraged to optimize this image.

View optimization. Preview of the image in its optimal condition. Both images can be compared to check the difference and decide whether to optimize it or not.

Optimize this image. If it has been decided that an image must be optimized, this checkbox must be selected and afterwards click on the “Save” button. For optimizing groups of images, we can click on the different images that we want to optimize, click on “Optimize selection” and then click on the “Save” button.

The automatic image optimization module is provided in three versions, whose main difference is the amount of images that can be optimized monthly.

  • Advanced: it allows the optimization of up to 10.000 images monthly

  • Pro: it allows the optimization of up to 3.000 images monthly

  • Standard: it allows the optimization of up to 1.000 images monthly

It is important to keep in mind that this module analyses the original image and, through a calculation algorithm, it is able to determine whether the image size can be optimized or not without changing its size (width and height values in pixels). This means the tool only changes the resolution of the image. This is to say, the module is unable to determine whether a bigger than needed image is used in the website as this information varies depending on the intended use of the image (banner, product, newsletter, etc.), therefore, this information cannot be analysed.
