What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small piece of data generated by a website and stored in the user’s browser in the form of a file. This way, the website can manage and retrieve information from the visits of its users.
The creation of cookies is based on a key/value structure, identifying this way the different navigation elements with its parameters.
Another unique feature of the cookies is their expiry date. Depending on the kind of data they generate or retrieve, the have an expiry date that may vary from minutes, to months or they may even be permanent.
According to the current European legislation, when a website generates cookies, it is mandatory to display a warning, which must be accepted (following any of the different legal acceptation formulae) by the visitor.
