How are shipping areas configured?

After creating a new shipping area, for what we only need to fill in the internal name and, if needed, the (also intern) fields of ID and comments, it has to be edited with a double click on the icon.shipping area.

From this window it is possible to assign the geographical locations where this shipping type is available and the weight intervals and/or the order imports that take part in those locations.

Locations

Locations are the zones and/or countries covered in this shipping type. They can be generally defined by countries or by locations inside the country; we have the possibility to choose an autonomous region, a province, a town or even a zip code. For example, a shipment to the peninsula might not have the same price as shipments to Canary Islands, Ceuta or Melilla. In that case we would create two different shipping areas with their pertinent prices.

To add a country we have to select it and click Add this country. If we need to add a location of a country, first we have to select the country of that location and then use the location searcher. Once found, we need to click the add icon (+ symbol).

Intervals

The intervals have two blocks: one that defines the weight range and the other that defines the order import range. The system will show the price of the interval which matches the weight and import of a particular order.
It is possible to create as many intervals as needed, being aware that:

  • The imports in the Price field are always without VAT.
  • The imports in the From € and To € are without VAT if the shipping type used in that interval has a No in the field Sections with tax included in the parameter window and they have VAT included if that field has a Yes (see _Definition of shipping types_).
  • The defined intervals cannot be overlapped, this is, it is not possible to have two intervals with the four fields (From kg, To kg, from the first block, and From €, To €, from the second one that are the same, or with ranges that are one inside the other. The two fields of the weight block can be the same, and the two of the import in two different intervals too; but they cannot all four be the same. An example of bad configuration would be defining a weight range of 0-10 kg and another one of 5-10 kg. This second one is already included in the first definition. If this happened, the system would visualize in the basket two shipping carriages in the same area and for the same shipper, but with different shipping costs, which would probably cause confusion to the user.
